Review – Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 Razor

As you may tell from my photos, I am a hairy man. My hair on my head is longer than average, my facial hair isn’t crazy but I always have stubble and my body hair, well let’s not go there.

Once my early twenties flew by, the hair just seemed to come from nowhere. Crazy.

It’s sounds like I just described myself as some sort of ape. However, I do like to keep myself pruned (occasionally) when I feel the hair gets a little much for comfort.

I like to keep stubble on my face and I wet shave  around the edges to keep it trim. I also occasionally wet shave with a non electric razor down my neck and shoulders. Why hair started growing there is beyond me, it’s just pointless and annoying.

I have been given a Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 Razor to try out.

The Hydro 5 razor features pioneering gel pools, which last up to twice as long as a lube strip and deliver 40 per cent less friction than a lubrication strip*.

*average vs. Quattro Titanium lubrication strip.

The Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 also features a handy flip trimmer, alleviating the struggle to completely shave difficult areas of the face. With a simple flick of the thumb, the hydrating gel pools flip back to reveal five blades that provide precision, control and hydrates throughout each shave.

I was tempted to close shave my entire beard and moustache but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I think I was twenty-three the last time my face was silky smooth but decided that it isn’t time to once again have a full face of baby bum smooth skin.

I trimmed my beard using an electric razor to a number one setting and after using a little shaving gel, used the Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 to finish off the job by shaving the edges to tidy up my beard and shaving down my neck to remove the hair that quite frankly has no purpose.

I used to use some old razor which has a battery and vibrates that I’m certain Santa got me and kindly placed in my stocking back in the 00’s.

It was an absolute pleasure using the Wilkinson Sword razor. It is a basic razor without batteries or anything fancy like that. Its purpose is to give a smooth finish. Well it certainly ticks that box. I occasionally test out very basic men’s grooming and toiletries products and some fail really basic design features. Like nail clippers being over engineered to the point that their design compromises the purpose. This men’s razor isn’t over engineered. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

The Wilkinson Sword glided with ease around my neck leaving a smooth, non-itchy finish. The razor is easy to hold and is small so can easily be stored.

Father’s day is coming up soon – if you fancy purchasing the razor, you can purchase it at Boots.

The razor has no extravagant features. It is designed perfectly for the job intended. What more can you ask for? The summarising phrase I’d like to give this product is; fit for purpose. It has replaced my old Santa’s razor gift and shall be part of my male grooming kit.
